Numerology as represented here is an approach to working out personality and direction in life looking at specific situations. It is a variant of something found in the Kabbalah in its varieties and offshoots. Whilst the task represented here can be done alone, it may be more suitable and fun to work in pairs, with one person as a client writing a problem or situation and the other person acting as a consultant and giving the resultant reading. A leading conversation may be made about the findings with prompts from the consultant rather than a straight guided reading.
The task may need some sensitivity as a finding can accidentally resonate with an actual and difficult real life situation. There may be religious objections anyway. A rule may be not to involve other people in the task than the pair themselves. The pair may want to switch around afterwards and reverse roles, to "see what happens" for each person. What does happen, certainly, is a task that when carried out needs accurate grammar and number work, and so can be a good educational experience.
The task is to write out the full name of the client and one short sentence of a situation chosen by the client. Then the consultant replaces the letters with numbers as follows:

| Note that each punctuation mark scores 90 (therefore two speech marks are 180). Curly and straight versions are regarded as the same. There are no numbers for full stops or decimal points, and no numbers for spaces. A string of numbers is the total shown for continuous numbers (so 12.8 is 128). There is no numbering for anything not specifically mentioned in this table. | ||||||||
Then the consultant (and the client can check) adds up the numbers from the name and the situation.
The numbers should be extracted and listed in thousands (if there are any), hundreds, tens and units.
Then they should be compared with meanings and a reading generated from those meanings.
These are for a consultative reading in the past, present or future.

| Note that numbers over 9000 have 9000 as the first number and then the remainder broken down, which may have a second number at 1000 or more. Multiples of the same 9000 only strengthen this highest number message. | |

The final stage is a reading by the consultant keeping as close to the words as possible, taking their weight and balance to produce a short narrative statement.
| A reading for 3272 would say something like: |
| Your situation is difficult. You try and try again but things are not coming to a conclusion. There is real negativity here but the only hope is that rational processes work out in the end. |
