Life Art

She is Ill was painted in August 2018 on a large canvas. For reasons of warning, the preparatory underpainting image is shown first, and the final image is below that. Both are 1000 wide by 1200 high and shown at 50%. Warning: the preparation is both explicit and the final result is additionally horrific to view.

The painting began as a rather straightforward nude, if one that is explicit. The blue under-layer that when dry had to be covered by flesh tone and would 'come through' in places was rather strong. The effect of the blue was to darken the flesh colour that went on later. I used this 'negative colour' approach throughout, as is evident. (Scroll down and continue to scroll for further text just below the image.)

It was not intended, but I started adding spots to her skin and this seemed to work. Some of the spots are angry and stand out, others are broken. Her vulva was more credible when not smooth but fleshy and indeed displays a discharge. The chair thus becomes, potentially, that like in a doctor's surgery (but for a General Practioner!), even if the walls look in need of decoration. On this basis you may wish not to view.
